Late in 1999 a group of concerned animal owners and citizens decided that Winston-Salem, Forsyth County needed a dedicated Animal Response / Rescue Team. This group approached the Winston-Salem Rescue Squad to be the sponsoring agency. After spending the majority of 2000 securing funding and training this group went on line January 1st, 2001. Part way through 2001 it was decided to expand the scope of the ART group to include all animals not just large animals. Currently the group has purchased a horse trailer to transport injured or displaced horses and has gotten further training in technical rescue techniqures such as swift water animal rescue and mountain rescue.
